My friends have been accusing me a overzealous racist.
I shall compose this mainly in English and partly in chinese as i find that there are something that it will be expressed more correctly in my lingua franca.

Little do they know I went through a education system a little bit different from theirs. I have been wanted to write something like this but i was lack of some motivations until recently the Singapore Mentor Minister Lee Kuen Yew "aspires" me.

For all of us perhaps we are homogeneous as we were educated in SJK(C), which english would translate it as National type chinese primary school. I barely remember my result was not too bad except for Bahasa Melayu. Amazingly, in a chinese primary school u have a Malay teacher teaching Malay since standard 4. All flashes in front me was she never laughed and punished us by pinching our cheeks with her unhygienic fingernails.

And then because of the decision of my father, i studied in a chinese independent school 独中. Many think that it's the end of one's future because in a english-dominant society it is a suicide. Many think that this type of school don't teach Malay and English. Worsely, many think that ppl graduated from such school can only further studies in Chinese-speaking country e.g taiwan.

However, they might not know every year thousands of 独中生got its way to famous international universities and local tertiary institutions. Some of outstanding students with excellent result in UEC(Unified Examination Certificate)immediately offered with scholarships by Singapore government. They will never know the USB drive which u always call it "pendrive" "thumbdrive" is actually invented in taiwan by a graduate of chinese independent school.

All these misconceptions are driven by the history factors and ignorance. When one refuses to understand and think, it possess a danger to the nation. That's how 513 incident worked and the conflict between ethnic groups in Malaysia continues.

I proud to be a graduate of chinese indepent school albeit Singapore Mentor Minister recently remarked his regret of not shutting down 南洋大学Nanyang Universities earlier than he did. Please don't get confused it with the current National Universities of Technology. The former was established by the Chinese community in southeast asia under the effort of 陈六史. When Lee said NU only accepted inferior students im pretty upset with it.

There were still some teachers graduated from NU during my time. They dont lack of the necessary technical knowledge nor their english proficiecy is poor. I got one of them teaching me biology in form 3. This is the beauty of 独中. We learn Chemistry Biology and Physics since form 2. If we choose science stream in form4 then we will learn more, vice versa. The thing is that this teacher not only taught the syllabus that he's supposed to teach but also told us trivials and always lead us to think on some issues.

I feel Lee's criticism on NU is the typical prejudice and bias which the public hold. Given his bachelor and master degree done in Cambridge, i wonder how much he knows about Chinese education system. If i were to comment about the education system, i would say the core philosophy of Chinese education system anable one to be a better man成人成才, shaping the integrity of one's. English education system preaches the practicality of particular specialisation and emphasise on arguements such as "the pros and cons" "why do you think it works" "what are the arguements of imposing ..."

No matter how important English is, Lee must acknowledge Chinese is still a main language in Singapore. From the daily life of their citizens u can see. u always see singaporeans talk in a mix of languages. U can't possibly spk oni english in hawker centre unless u're angmoh tho they hakwers can understand simple english.

Bahasa Jiwa Bangsa.

In this globalised generation what we should do is to master as many languages as we can, especially the main languages in your own country. Otherwise it leaves u in a limbo like singaporean do, whether to use english or chinese.
